I thought I was ready for this page, but I was so very wrong. I wasn’t prepared for the wave of memories of Gareth’s story from the start of the strip flashing through my mind with an entirely new context. I’m not sure when I’ll be ready to face it this way, but I will eventually be rereading the strip again from the beginning. What is reality when well written fiction makes you feel like it is.
One of my concerns writting this whole flashback story-arcs was that this moment wouldn’t feel earned. That you guys wouldn’t care about Ben, that’s one of the reasons this telling has taken so much time, I wanted to take my time building the things that lead up to this strip, given how important it is for the lore of this comic. Thank you for your words Max, I deeply appreciate them.

This was a really difficult strip to write and to draw. One of the reasons this season has been so inconsistent with it uploads, it’s because I really struggled on how to write it the best way possible to have this moment have an impact.
And one of my concerns was for the readers to get tired of this whole Gareth arc, and drop out. Thanks for sticking through all of it Ark
